Songwriter and label owner Devora Brown began writing country songs in 1941. In 1943, her husband Jack Brown started to produce Country & Western acts that he found performing in Detroit bars on the weekends. Jack would record these acts direct to acetate discs and distribute the discs to local bars. In later years, Fortune would release these early and mid '40s recordings.
